About Us

Church of the Morningstar was founded in San Francisco, California, in the year of their lord 2019.

We grew from a motley gaggle of Satanists, Luciferians, Chaos Magicians, Thelemites, Discordians, assorted Pagans, and other walkers of the Left-Hand Path. We craved a space to come together in celebration of Divine Rebels; a space where magickal experimentation was welcomed, dogma was eschewed, curiosity was revered and liberty was respected. And that is exactly the kind of space we have created.

Our small, scrappy church is directly democratic. A handful of elected pastors and officers do many of the chores of administration, but the church is governed by its members.

Our ceremonies are creative, collaborative, experimental, and infused with DIY punk-rock spirit.

The Church started out as a local affair. More recently, due to the pandemic, we have gone digital and international, holding remote Masses that can be attended by anybody, anywhere.

Who is a Morningstar?

We are miscellaneous walkers of the Left-Hand Path. We reject authoritarian deities and repressive religions. We celebrate knowledge, liberation, solidarity, earthly pleasure, spiritual growth, and the divinity of all beings. We come from many traditions and revere many spirits. As a group, we seem to lean towards deities that represent rebellion, knowledge, sex and/or death, trickster gods, and gods that have undeserved bad reputations.
